The BJP has registered a landslide victory in the Gujarat local body elections, winning across all 15 municipal corporations including Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot, Bhavnagar and Jamnagar.
In Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation, the party won 160 of 192 seats while Congress secured just 32. In Morbi, the BJP secured a clean sweep, winning all 52 seats with Congress and AAP failing to open their account. PM Modi, who voted via postal ballot in Ahmedabad’s Ranip area, said the results show the bond between Gujarat and the BJP has grown “even stronger and unbreakable,” and praised voters for endorsing the state government’s development-oriented work. The results deal a significant blow to both Congress and AAP, which had invested heavily in the campaign hoping to make inroads in Gujarat’s urban centres
